THE BUTTERFLY. A Sonnet, addressed to the Ladies.
To vilest reptiles, air or earth,
To mortal view e'er gave,
The gayest insects owe their birth,
Their being--all they have.
Thus, in one lineage we trace,
Congenially descry,
The loathsome maggot's groveling race,
And gaudiest butterfly.
